India started their tour of the United Kingdom (UK) on a grand note with a couple of resounding wins against Ireland at the Malahide Cricket Ground in Dublin. The Men in Blue carried their form in the T20I series against England as well. Virat Kohli and his boys were clinical and thumped the hosts by 2-1. However, despite the victories, the visiting team has its fair share of concerns.

Shikhar Dhawan, one of their top-order batsmen, hasn’t been in prime form. In the first match against Gary Wilson’s men, he notched up a half-century but managed only 19 runs in three encounters against the Brits. While David Willey picked him up in Manchester and Bristol, he succumbed to a run-out in Cardiff. Meanwhile, former cricketer Mohinder Amarnath reckons his form to be a concern.

“It’s been a good beginning for the Indian team”- Amarnath

“The only worry, perhaps, is Shikhar’s form, but I’m sure he will come good. He needs a little time to settle in and the 50-over format will help him with that. India will need to rely more on their pacers in England.

The spinners will play a part in this series – they played well in the T20s with a case in point being Chahal who bowled a good line and length. I was surprised that Kuldeep was left out of the last game,” Amarnath wrote in his column for The Times of India (TOI).

Amarnath also believes that the national team would replicate their form in the ODI series as well. Moreover, he hailed Rohit Sharma for his superlative knock in the deciding match at the County Ground. The opener notched a ton off 56 balls and also equalled New Zealand’s Colin Munro as the batsmen with most (three) T20I centuries.

“It’s been a good beginning for the Indian team. I’m sure they will carry this form into the coming ODIs as well. It’s been good to see different players performing well over the three T20s. Of course, Rohit Sharma was absolutely brilliant in the last match, showing that it doesn’t matter where you play.

All it takes is technique and temperament and the ability to assess the situation at the right time and plan the innings accordingly,” he added.
