England vs India: Selectors to pick the Indian squad for the first three Tests

Two old and fierce rivals, England and India are on a roll in every format of the game. Both these sides are performing exceedingly well, making them the top contenders to lift the ICC World Cup which will be conducted next year. But before all that, another huge challenge awaits the exuberant Indian contingent.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli had a horrendous memory when he had to face it last time, but he’s a completely different cricketer right now who would be eager to face this challenge.

It’ll be a tough task for the selectors to come up with a perfect combination as they have options in plenty across all departments. Hence, the selectors have decided to not pick the squad for this 5-match series at one go and will primarily announce a squad for the first three Tests.

Some young names will be discussed

A prominent source from the BCCI has confirmed the news that the squad for the first three Tests will be announced primarily, as reported by CricketNext. The source has also mentioned that some young names will be discussed in the meeting.

“See, this is not a three-game series. In such a case, you ideally pick the squad and then you proceed. But in a long five-match series, you don’t wish to pick the squad at one go. Some of the players who might be sore or have an injury and are progressing well will come into the picture as and when they are fit. Like Bumrah is certain to need time to be fit till the second Test,” he explained.

“Some of the young names are surely to be discussed, but it is too early to say who will get the nod and who will not. But performances are bound to be taken into account when the wise men sit down,” He said.

Mohammed Shami is also back in contention for a place in the side after the fast bowler managed to clear the Yo-Yo Test a few days ago. He was dropped from the Indian side after he had failed to clear the Test before the Afghanistan Test.
