Team India, after winning the T20Is and losing the ODI series, is preparing for the biggest challenge – the five-match Test series against England. Given the fact that they’ve been in the country for almost a month, played the two limited-overs series’ the challengers have acclimatized to the conditions, know the expected temperature, its impact and how the wickets are behaving. However, the warm-up fixture ahead of the Test series is going to be crucial for the team to figure out the best possible XI for the first Test.

They have quite a few options in the batting as well as bowling departments and the practice match should give them a clue in terms of the rhythm of the players. While most experts thought just one warm-up game ahead of a five-match series was a sign of under preparation as it turns out the Indian team management has cut short the four-day game into a three-day affair which further reduces game time.

Team not happy with the move

The first Test gets underway on August 1 in Birmingham and the management is of the view that the team should reach there a day prior to train for the match. As per the original schedule Virat Kohli & Co. would play a game against Essex from July 25-28, instead, they will now end it on July 27 and then travel to Birmingham ahead of the opening Test. Reports suggest that the team is not happy with the recent development and would’ve preferred if it was a four-day match.

While most of the guys who featured in the T20Is and ODIs have an advantage the Indian Test specialists – Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have just arrived in the country.

There are also two players from the India A team in Karun Nair and Rishabh Pant who will join the senior squad for the Test series, they’ve played some cricket here in the summer and are well aware of the challenges that await them.
