West Indies spiced up the Test series by handing a 4-wicket defeat to England during the first game of the 3-match Test series in Southampton. England’s batting collapses in both innings cost them big time as West Indies out batted the hosts despite some of the under performing specialist batsmen. However, England will hope to attain stability in the batting with the return of their skipper Joe Root. The remaining two Test matches will be played in Manchester out of which West Indies need to win only one for their first Test series win in England in 32 years.

Here we look at all the key stats and numbers ahead of the crucial second Test match at the Old Trafford:

1/12 – The 185-run defeat during the 2019 Ashes is the only time England lost a Test match at the Old Trafford since the start of 2002. In this period, England played 12 Tests at this venue and won nine another two ended in a draw.

4-2 – Captaincy record of Jason Holder in Test cricket against England. West Indies has won each of their last three Tests which they played under Holder against England.

(Min: 500 runs) A total of 64 players have scored more than 500 runs in the longer format since the beginning of 2018. Hope scored 527 runs in this period across 28 innings he batted in the 15 Tests with help of two fifties.

28James Anderson has picked up 28 wickets across seven Test matches he played at the Old Trafford at an average of 21.78 and a strike rate of 41.3. Only Sir Alec Bedser (51 wickets in 7 Tests) has picked more wickets in Test cricket than Anderson.

41 – Kemar Roach went wicketless in Southampton despite bowling 41 overs across the two innings. These are the most number of overs that Roach bowled during a Test match without picking a wicket. Roach has bowled 53 overs in his previous two Test matches but failed to pick up even one wicket.

44.91 – Mark Wood has a bowling average of 44.91 in Test cricket on England soil; the 2nd worst bowling average for any England pacer in home Tests. (Min: 20 wickets) Wood has picked up 24 wickets across 10 Tests at a strike rate of 77.2.
