I enjoy the way Yuvraj Singh bats: Shikhar Dhawan

India discard Shikhar Dhawan has had a mixed start to the 10^th season of the Indian Premier league as he has got off to decent starts, but has not been able to convert them into big scores. In the match against the Kolkata Knight Riders yesterday Dhawan scored a dull 23 runs off 22 balls and could not do any good to his team that was chasing a score of 173.

Shikhar Dhawan spoke to the Telegraph about making a comeback in the India team and his eagerness to make it to the side before the upcoming Champions Trophy. The player explained that scoring runs are the only way of getting back into the side as it gives a lot of confidence to an out of form batsman. The 31-year-old at the same time is pretty confident of delivering such performances and returning to the side. He further stated that tournaments like the Indian Premier League are a good platform to grab the attention of the selectors.

Shikhar Dhawan quoted “Every tournament is a vehicle… The Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Deodhar Trophy, the IPL… Mere liye yeh hi ek raasta hai . I made the India team on the strength of my performances in domestic cricket and my comeback will also be on the back of such performances… For a batsman, runs enhance confidence.”

When asked about his role model opener the left-handed batsman said there is no specific role model but he enjoys watching Yuvraj Singh bat. He also seems to be a big fan of Cheteshwar Pujara’s patience and likes to concentrate on the positives rather than the negatives.

“No role models. But I enjoy the way Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) bats, admire Cheteshwar Pujara’s patience… Always remember some of the things Sachin Tendulkar told me… Like taking the positivity out of every situation.”
