The England team lost the second ODI at Cuttack by 15 runs after conceding 381 runs to the Indians. Eoin Morgan won the toss and to make the best of some assistance that was on offer from the surface and conditions decided to bowl first and opted to field four seamers in the game. That coupled with the way Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni batted slowed down their bowling rate. After the game, the English skipper has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the 2nd ODI.

They were short on the required over rate by one over and Andy Pycroft of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the fine after Eoin Morgan’s side as they failed to complete their bowling innings in the time allotted. In accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

On-field umpires from the game Anil Chaudhary and Ruchira Palliyaguruge along with third umpire Kumar Dharmasena and fourth official Nitin Menon laid the initial charges on the visiting skipper and Pycroft took that into account while making the decision.

The Match Referee decided to fine Morgan 20 per cent of his match fee, while all the other England players have received 10 per cent fines. Morgan pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

Team India lead the series 2-0 and the action now moves to Kolkata where the teams will play the last ODI of the series on January 22, Sunday. While the hosts would want to make it 3-0 and continue their dominance over the Brits, Eoin Morgan & Co. would certainly want to win the final match to go in with a positive momentum in the T20I series.
