Eoin Morgan wants to play the next T20 World Cup in 2022. Morgan happens to be one of the most successful captains in the shortest format of the game. The English limited-overs skipper has won the most games as a T20I captain. It was in the ongoing T20 World Cup where he surpassed MS Dhoni and Asghar Afghan to become the most successful T20I captain with 43 wins.

He led England to the finals in the previous T20 WC in 2016 as well. England were good in this edition of the tournament but failed to live up to the expectations as they reached the semi-finals only to get knocked out by the New Zealand.

Eoin Morgan hopes to lead England in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia

New Zealand were finally able to avenge their 2019 ODI World Cup loss after beating England in the semi-final of the 2021 T20 World Cup. Owing to an unbeaten 72 by Daryl Mitchell, the Kiwis ended up chasing 167 with an over to spare and thus, ended England’s hopes of winning the tournament. It was the English skipper Morgan who was on the receiving end this time around.

After their defeat, he was asked if he would like to continue leading the side to which Morgan said “I hope so”. “I am still offering enough within the side. I absolutely love playing cricket at the moment,” said the 35-year-old.

“The guys give absolutely everything and are always looking to get better. They are at the forefront of change both on and off the field. I am incredibly proud to be their leader.” Morgan said after England’s heartbreaking loss at Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Although the Swashbuckling player has been an absolute legend in the shorter versions of the game for England, his recent form has been woeful, to say the least. He has been averaging just 16.66 in 2021. So much so that he himself had said before the start of the T20 WC that he would drop himself if his poor form continued. It is yet to be seen if Morgan starts playing like before and regains his lost mojo.
