India will meet South Africa on December 26 at the SuperSport Park, Centurion. The Indian think tank would be scratching their heads to decide the perfect lineup. Several players are there who are the right candidates for a single position.

The last time India came to South Africa, the Proteas won the series by a margin of 2-1. Also, India has never won a series in South Africa in 29 years. South Africa will be missing the services of Anrich Nortje, who sustained an injury. But, there are players in the squad who might be the right candidate to fill in his shoes.

On December 24, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer shared his concern regarding the Indian batting unit on Twitter. He mentioned that the Indian team on the last tour could cross the 250-run mark only once in six innings, which was the biggest reason India lost the series. Jaffer added that the bowlers picked “20 wickets in all three Tests.”

Jaffer further mentioned in his tweet that India should go for a “7+4” composition. The bowling lineup should contain Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Ravichandran Ashwin.

“India made 250+ only once in six innings in SA in 2018. And that’s why we lost the series despite taking 20 wickets in all 3 tests. Extra batter is a must in SA. I’d go 7+4 with Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, and Ashwin being the 4 bowlers. #SAvIND,” Jaffer tweeted.

Wasim Jaffer says India should aim to score over 400 runs

During an interaction with News18 earlier, Jaffer said that the Indian bowlers are very experienced and will keep the team in the game.

“India’s bowlers will keep their team in the game. The Indian fast bowling is very experienced now. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami have a lot of experience. India has an all-round attack,” Jaffer said.

Jaffer added that India should look to score over 400 runs to win matches in South Africa. He also said that the main issue for India has been that the batters have not scored many runs.

“I have been saying that if India scores 400 plus, it is more likely that it will win matches. Our bowling attack is first class. The challenge is for the batters to put scores on the board. That’s been the problem,” he added.
