A solid middle-order batsman who can roll his arm for good, Mohammad Nabi has been an integral part of Afghanistan’s journey to the elite. Starting from ICC’s World Cricket League Division Five till Afghanistan’s heroics at the international arena, Nabi has been instrumental in the Afghan team’s good run at various stages. Here we have some of the interesting facts about Mohammad Nabi.

1. Born and brought up:

Mohammad Nabi was born on January 1, 1985, Loger in Afghanistan.

2. Major caps:

He has represented Afghanistan, Marylebone Cricket Club, Pakistan Customs, Sylhet Royals and Rangpur Riders.

3. Taking up cricket:

Nabi took up cricket at the age of 10 while living in Peshawar. He later went to Arshad Khan’s academy in Peshawar.

4. First-class cricket:

In 26 matches, Nabi scored 1049 runs at an average of 26.22. He has registered two centuries and three fifties.

5. Colored outing:

He made his ODI debut against Scotland at Benoni, in the year 2009. He scored a strokeful half-century in that game.

6. ODI heroics in number:

Nabi played 58 ODI games for Afghanistan, scoring 1432 runs at an average of 30.46 and at a strike rate of 88.17. He has a century and eight fifties to his name.

7. Match winning knock:

Nabi’s 116 from 121 balls came against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club. Afghanistan went on to win the match by 58 runs.

8. Shortest format sparks:

Nabi made his T20I debut against Ireland at Colombo in the year 2010. In 33 T20I matches, Nabi scored 433 runs and picked up 29 vital wickets.

9. Big events:

Nabi has remained the mainstay of the side that qualified for the World Twenty20 in 2010, 2012 and 2014 and recently, the 2015 World Cup.

10. Big match player:

He once played an exhibition game in India against MCC in 2005 and scored a 39-ball century. Mike Gatting was very impressed and took him to their academy at the Lord’s where he was trained for two years.

11. Captain cool:

He took over the captaincy from Nawroz Mangal in March 2013 and led the side till the 2015 World Cup. Afghanistan went on to beat Scotland in the World Cup, in a thrilling encounter.
