Former Indian batsman and batting coach of IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) Wasim Jaffer is quite popular amidst the cricket fans on social media for his wit and humour. The veteran often manages to steal the limelight with his meme-inspired tweets on Twitter. However, Jaffer had to face the heat on social media as a fan mistook him for India’s batting coach and slammed him for the team’s poor performance in the Adelaide Test against Australia.

The Indian cricket team was involved in a highly-anticipated pink-ball Test game against Australia at Adelaide Oval where they suffered an annihilation on the Day 3 and were succumbed to a humiliating defeat by 8 wickets. India had a decent start in the Test as they posted a total of 244 in their first innings owing to a sublime knock of 74 runs by Indian captain Virat Kohli.

In reply, Australia flattened at a score of 191 for 10 as Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav picked 4 and 3 wickets respectively. The opposition skipper Tim Paine was the highest run-getter for his team in the first innings with a score of unbeaten 73. However, India’s all efforts went in vain as no batsman took the responsibility of scoring runs in the second innings.

The wickets kept falling from both the ends and India ended up with an embarrassing score of 36/9, their lowest total in the purest format of the game. Chasing this total was a cakewalk for Australia as they won the game by 8 wickets.

A Twitter user trolls Wasim Jaffer for making memes

The embarrassing loss against Australia angered the Indian fans as they brutally roasted the team management, staff and the players on social media. Meanwhile, a fan mistook Wasim Jaffer as the batting coach of India and criticised him for wasting his time in making memes rather than schooling the Indian batsmen.

Seeing the tweet, Jaffer was quick to clarify the confusion. Notably, former Indian opener Vikram Rathore is the batting coach of India’s senior men’s cricket team. “When the batting coach is busy making memes, what can be expected from the batsmen,” the fan wrote. To this Jaffer replied, “I’m not the batting coach Mohit.”
