Team India is due to play five ODIs and three T20Is against the Windies cricket team. The limited-overs leg of the tour begins on October 21, 2018. Former Indian fast-bowler Ajit Agarkar suggested that the selectors should look at the option of resting MS Dhoni and giving Rishabh Pant a go in his place. He said that he couldn’t believe that Pant is not a part of the ODI side.

This came after the former Indian captain has failed miserably with the bat in the recent times. Although he is believed to be the best finisher in the game, his prime time is now believed to have gone past him. MS Dhoni showed the fans glimpses of the old Mahi that he was in the IPL. But, he failed to emulate the same kind of success at the international arena.

Dhoni hadn’t had the best of times playing in England and the Asia Cup. He has been facing severe criticism and there were demands of looking beyond him earlier as well. With the World Cup just about seven to eight months away, the Indian middle-order looks quite unsettled and there are a lot of questions that are to be answered.

“I can’t believe he (Pant) is not part of India’s shorter format setup,” Agarkar was quoted by ESPNCricinfo. He also said that there was no harm in resting MSD to give the youngster a chance.

“Hopefully they do that (ODI for Pant) sooner, rather than later, against the West Indies in the ODI series. There are five ODIs and there will be an opportunity to play him somewhere, whether as a batter or a wicketkeeper. I mean you know what Dhoni can do and there is no harm in resting him for a couple of games,” Agarkar said.

However, these statements did not go well with many of the fans. They lashed out at the pacer on Twitter for these comments.
