Fans vote for India 'Dream Team' on the occasion of 500th Test

In the past few days, we saw former cricketers like Sanjay Manjrekar and Laxman Sivaramakrishnan announced their ‘dream team.’

But, it is always fascinating to see what the general fans feel. The BCCI, therefore, made sure that it gave an opportunity to the fans to vote and select their favourite Indian team; the team which according to them is the Dream team.

The dream chosen by the fans is very similar to the ones announced by the former cricketers. Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar have been the favourite choice for the top four. Both the experts and the fans have gone with the same line-up. VVS Laxman and fast bowling all-rounder Kapil Dev formed the middle order.

In the bowling department, the masses have decided to go with Ravichandran Ashwin and Anil Kumble as the spinners while Javagal Srinath and Zaheer Khan will share the fast bowling responsibility.

The most surprising name on the list was of Yuvraj Singh who grabbed the 12th man position in the team. Yuvraj Singh beat out the legendary names like Eknath Solkar, Chandu Borde, MAK Pataudi and Hemu Adhikari for the last place in the team.

The historic 500th test concluded with India registering a simple 196 runs win. Ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (6 for 132) claimed his 19th five-wicket haul of his career to star in the fantastic win.

Chasing a nominal 434, New Zealand had been bowled out for 236. Needing six wickets to win the match on day five, India had to endure the resilience from the Ronchi-Santner pair in the morning session before the gates opened and the win arrived 43 minutes after lunch.
