Australia will face India in the second ODI of the three-match ODI series on Thursday, October 23, at the Adelaide Oval. Australia and India have played a total of 153 ODI games so far against each other. India has won 58 out of these 153 matches. In Australia, India has won 14 of 55 games. In Adelaide, India has won two of six games, both in the last two matches.

In the first ODI, Australia won the toss and elected to bowl. Nitish Kumar Reddy made his ODI debut for India, while Matt Renshaw, who has already played 14 Test matches since his debut in 2016, played his first ODI game. India had a poor start and lost the wickets of both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli inside the first seven overs. By the time the team crossed the 50-run mark, two more wickets had fallen. Axar Patel and KL Rahul did have a partnership of 39 runs for the fifth wicket, but rain delays made the case worse for the team. India lost the last four wickets for just 40 runs and finished with 136 runs for the loss of nine wickets. The match was reduced to 26 overs per side, and as per the DLS calculations, Australia got a target of 131 runs. Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Owen, and Matthew Kuhnemann picked up two wickets each for Australia.

Australia lost two early wickets as Travis Head and Matthew Short were dismissed after scoring eight runs each. Mitchell Marsh remained in the middle till the end and had a partnership of 55 runs for the third wicket with Josh Philippe, which changed the course of the match towards Australia. It was a mere formality from that point, and Australia took 21.1 overs to reach the target of 131 runs with seven wickets in hand. Marsh remained unbeaten on 46 runs off 52 deliveries and won the Player of the Match award.
