India last played a T20I series against South Africa last month. The three match series ended on 1-1 as one of the matches ended in a no result due to rain. India defeated South Africa in their last outing in the shortest format of the game. Rohit Sharma is back in the squad to lead. He last played a T20I game during the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022.

Afghanistan faced the United Arab Emirates in their last T20I series and won the three-match series by 2-1 margin. Afghanistan won their last T20I game by four wickets after chasing down the target of 127 runs in 18.3 overs with four wickets in hand. They have made a few changes to the squad that faced the UAE. Darwish Rasooli, Sediqullah Atal, and Mohammad Ishaq have been dropped from the squad. Ikram Alikhil, Gulbadin Naib, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman have been included.
