The Originals won just a single game last season out of eight and finished in second-last position. The Brave faced Oval Invincibles in the final and lost the match by 17 runs. Wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt will lead the Originals this year. The team picked James Anderson as their wildcard player, and he is likely to make his debut in The Hundred. Marchant de Lange, who was also signed as a wildcard player, has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. He has been replaced by Farhan Ahmed in the squad.
