Royals faced Joburg Super Kings in their last match and elected to bowl after winning the toss. Super Kings posted a total of 168 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs. Reeza Hendricks scored 79 runs off 56 deliveries and was the highest scorer. Lungi Ngidi, Andile Phehlukwayo, and Fabian Allen took one wicket each for the Royals. Wihan Lubbe played a knock of 57 runs off 48 deliveries for the Royals and guided the team to cross the line in 19 overs with five wickets in hand. Dane Vilas also played a crucial knock of 42 runs off 26 deliveries. Moeen Ali was the pick of the bowlers for the Super Kings and took two wickets for 31 runs in four overs.

Super Giants took on MI Cape Town in their previous outing, where MI won the toss and elected to bowl after winning the toss. Super Giants scored 157 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Matthew Breetzke scored 48 runs off 46 deliveries and was the highest scorer for the Super Giants. George Linde and Thomas Kaber took two wickets each for MI. MI lost their first three wickets for just 39 runs. Sam Curran scored 38 runs off 27 deliveries and was the highest scorer for the team. They could make only 121 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs and lost the match by 36 runs. Marcus Stoinis and Noor Ahmad took three wickets each for the Super Giants. Linde won the Player of the Match award for his bowling performance.
