Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB-W) will take on the Mumbai Indians (MI-W) in the 19th game of the Women’s Premier League 2023 on Tuesday (March 21) at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Both teams have had an opposite run this season and will be looking to end the group stage on a positive note. Mumbai started with five back-to-back wins and became the first team to qualify for the playoffs. However, two successive losses in the last two games have pushed them to the second position in the points table. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will now have to win this game with a huge margin and then hope that Delhi Capitals don’t win their last group stage game later this evening. The first five wins came on the back of a superb batting performance from the top order. The same has not happened in the last two games, so the team has suffered. Saika Ishaque, one of the finds of this season, picked 12 wickets in the first four games and helped change the course of matches on her own. But, she has failed to pick a wicket in the last two games, which has also been one of the reasons for Mumbai’s dreadful recent run.

On the other hand, Bangalore had one of the worst starts, as they lost five consecutive games. They conceded more than 200 runs in two games and then folded for less than 160 runs in the remaining three. However, their luck changed last week against UP Warriorz. Bangalore defeated the Warriorz with the help of an all-round performance. The bowlers first bundled up the Warriorz for just 135 runs, and then batters chased down this total without a sweat. The top order struggled in the initial half, but Kanika Ahuja and Richa Ghosh, two young Indian batters, ensured the team crossed the line. In the previous outing against the Gujarat Giants, the bowlers conceded 188 runs and looked like the script from the first five games will repeat once again. But Sophie Devine had other plans in her mind. She went hard against the Giants’ bowlers right from the word go. The opponents looked clueless throughout the innings as Sophie hit eight sixes and nine fours. She failed to create history as she was dismissed for 99 runs, but Bangalore chased down the mammoth target in just 15.3 overs. Bangalore are currently in the fourth position in the points table with four points and have already been eliminated.

Pitch Report

The first three games at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai were high-scoring, as the team batting first posted totals in excess of 200 runs twice. However, the pitch has improved for the bowlers in the recent few games as a total of 150 runs has been scored only once in the last six matches. The pitch will have something for both the batters and the bowlers in this game.
