The third edition of the SA20 will begin on January 9, with reigning champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape taking on MI Cape Town in the opening match of SA20 2025. This season is set to be even bigger, with a number of T20 stars signing up for the tournament. The top-four teams in the six-team league will qualify for the knockouts, which will have qualifiers and an eliminator. Gqeberha is set to host the first qualifier while Centurion will stage the eliminator and second qualifier. The final will be held in Johannesburg on February 8.

Having won the tournament in 2023 and 2024, Sunrisers, under captain Markram and coach Birell will be looking to go three on the trot. They have some very good local players like Markram, Marco Jansen, Tristan Stubbs, David Bedingham and Ottneil Baartman. Zak Crawley, Richard Gleeson and Liam Dawson are some of the big overseas player in the side. 

MI had finished rock bottom in 2023 and 2024 and will be keen to have a better season this time around. Rashid Khan will lead a side that have some of the strong names with  the likes of Trent Boult, Kagiso Rabada and Rashid himself with the ball. While they have picked up Reeza Hendricks through the auction for this edition and he will join Rassie van der dussen and Ryan Rickleton to bolster the batting front. This promises to be a thrilling match to kickstart the new season of SA20.
