West Indies (WI) will face Pakistan (PAK) in the third match of the three-match T20I series on Monday, August 4, at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida. The series is evenly poised with both teams winning one game each. Pakistan won the first game by 14 runs after posting a total of 178 runs for the loss of six wickets on the board. Saim Ayub was the highest scorer for Pakistan and won the Player of the Match award for his knock of 57 runs off 38 deliveries.
In the second match, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat. They lost the first three wickets in the powerplay and scored just 24 runs. At the end of the 10th over mark, Pakistan had lost four wickets and had 57 runs on the board. They finished with 133 runs for the loss of nine wickets. This was Pakistan’s second-lowest score against the West Indies while batting first. Hasan Nawaz was the highest scorer and made 40 runs off 23 deliveries. Salman Agha (40 off 23) and Fakhar Zaman (20 off 19) were the two other batters who had a decent outing with the bat. Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies and took four wickets for 19 runs in four overs. It was his best bowling figures against Pakistan in T20Is.
The West Indies didn’t have a great start with the bat either and piled up just 34 runs in the powerplay. At the end of the 10th over, they were three runs behind Pakistan’s total but had lost one less wicket. In the next five overs, they scored just 27 runs and lost half of their wickets. The 16th over, bowled by Hasan Ali, was where the match shifted its course. Gudakesh Motie collected 16 runs from that over, including a wide. He was run out on the second delivery of the next over, and Holder walked in to bat. The team lost another wicket in that over and could score only three runs, two of which came because of a wide and a no-ball. Holder and Romario Shepherd made 28 runs in the next two overs, and the equation came down to the West Indies requiring eight runs off the last over. Holder hit a four off the last delivery of the 20th over to take the across the line. It was the West Indies’ first win over Pakistan in T20Is since 2017.
