South African batsman David Miller has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka after suffering a cut on his right hand. This could very well see him miss more than just the ongoing series which would be a shame given the fact that he was just about to find some sort of consistency with the bat prior to returning to his IPL outfit.

Miller cut his little finger on the right hand whilst attempting to take a catch in the deep. This incident occurred in the eighth over of the second ODI between Sri Lanka and South Africa in Kingsmead in Durban wherein he dived underneath a catch, thus jarring his finger against the grass. The cut meant that he did not field for the remainder of the game.

Injuries such as this ensure that a player misses at least seven to ten days gave the minor treatments and dressings that need to be done on the wounds. This might see him come in contention to play the T20 international series against New Zealand shortly after the completion of the series as well.

Miller made 117 off 98 balls at Kingsmead, adding 117 for the fifth wicket with Faf du Plessis, to help turn an uncertain South Africa innings into a total of 307 for 6 which set up a 121-run victory.

As far as replacements go, Dwayne Pretorius is a fast-bowling all-rounder who could make his way into the side should they need more bowling support in addition to Wayne Parnell as well. While this remains to be seen, the third ODI of the series will see the Proteas donning the pink strip in the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
