Fire scare at Eden Gardens ahead of IPL game

We did not see any fire and only when the smoke was coming out we brought it under control, says the firefighter

There has been a fire scare ahead of the Kolkata’s matchup against the Kings XI Punjab at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The fire lit up in the AC units of the Eden Gardens in the vicinity of the press box area ahead of the match.

Timely intervention from the firefighters reduced the possibility of a mishap and also curbed the situation of going out of hand. The calamity occurred around 19.45 in the vicinity of TV- Radio annexe of the press box. The two Air conditioning unit caught fire which embodied the upper-tier of the clubhouse with smoke.

About 20 firefighters were employed to deal with the incident and to acquire control of the situation. Meanwhile, the crowd gathered in the stadium started to panic due to the ruckus created due to the situation. However, one of the officials went ahead to comment that there was no reason to panic due to the fire, as it was a minor incident.

He also emphasized on the fact that no visible fire was prevalent during the whole incident but only the smoke was visible which was later brought under control robustly. As a measure of precaution, the two Air Conditioning units were shut off.

“No need to panic, it’s a minor incident. We did not see any fire and only when the smoke was coming out, we brought it under control. The AC units need to be shut off” said the fire official. This statement can also be spelled out as power supply were cut off to all air conditioning units as a precaution.

Eden Gardens is the headquarters of CAB ( Cricket Association of Bengal) and currently, Sourav Ganguly has taken over the administration as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal. He was appointed as the President of the CAB after the sad demise of Jagmohan Dalmiya in September 2015.
