Fit again Parthiv Patel set to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018

Veteran Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel had to bow out of the recently concluded Test series against South Africa following an injury. He suffered the injury in the final Test at Johannesburg. In his absence, Dinesh Karthik was seen donning the wicketkeeping gloves for the Indian side on the final day of the match. A lot was spoken about how much time Parthiv will take to recover.

Much to his relief, he is all set to take the field again. Parthiv Patel has been named in the Gujarat squad for the 2018 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The tournament is the premier domestic one day competition of India. However, Parthiv Patel will be eligible for selection after the first three matches of his team. In his absence, the selectors have named Priyank Panchal as the captain for the tournament.

Apart from Panchal and Parthiv, the team boasts of several other big names in the squad. Veteran leggie Piyush Chawla has found a place in the team too. Also, Chirag Gandhi and Chintan Gaja add solidity to the lineup. The team will miss the services of Axar Patel. Axar is currently with the national side in South Africa for the limited overs assignment.

Gujarat played their first match of the tournament against Tamil Nadu. Their next five encounters will be against Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Goa. Gujarat has had reasonable amount of success in the tournament history. Also, they have been one of the stronger outfits in the Indian domestic circuit in the recent years. They were the winners of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 edition of the tournament. It was under Parthiv Patel’s captaincy that had seen them get the coveted glory.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the Gujarat team had great success in 2015-16 season. In the current season, they will have to be in the top two sides from their group to advance further in the competition.
