The 26-year-old batsman from Ranchi was snapped up by the Rising Pune Supergiant in the recently concluded IPL auction at a base price of Rs.10 lakhs. Rahul Tripathi features for Pune in the domestic arena and is also the first player from Pune to feature for the Rising Pune Supergiant.

The flowing square-drive and the slog on the leg-side in veteran Praveen Kumar’s over was enough for the national Journalist to google his name, albeit in a scurry. The Pune lad followed his first match-heroics with a 23-ball 31 against last year’s finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore before being snapped brilliantly by the Indian captain Virat Kohli.

Before the IPL auction, the Puneri had scored 185 runs from 11 innings, alongside picking up four wickets with the ball. After the IPL Auction, the batsman stepped up his level in the Vijay Hazare Trophy where he managed to amass 157 runs in three innings, including a 74 ball 95 runs against Bengal, who eventually ended up as the finalists.
