Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s celebrations at The Oval in London after winning the fourth Test against England had been put into some questions by some fans, former players, and journalists. However, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has come forward and defended Kohli by responding to Fox Sports.

The incident started with Fox putting up an article on their website with a headline that termed Kohli’s celebrations as classless. This was a direct commentary of the viral trumpet celebration which the Indian captain came up with on the final day of the Test which India won by 157 runs. Throughout this summer, The Barmy Army, the renowned union of English cricket fans, has used the trumpet to celebrate the times when England was ahead or doing well.

Kohli’s trumpet celebration was actually for The Barmy Army, which didn’t sit right with a few people. Responding to the article which was published by Fox Sports on Twitter, Jaffer wrote while fixing the headline, “Captain Courageous: World applauds as Virat Kohli’s team brings dead game to life and scripts historic win. Here fixed it for you @FoxCricket.”

The Barmy Army seems to take it in good spirits

The Barmy Army took the celebrations of Kohli in not a disrespectful way as they shared a picture of him on Twitter. The caption of the tweet read, “Yes we know you want to be in the army Virat. We get the hint.” One of the more popular tweets on this entire matter was posted by Lawrence Booth, a cricket writer for the Daily Mail and the editor of Wisden.

In his first tweet, Booth sarcastically pointed out how Kohli would want to give back to the crowds despite winning the match. He later clarified that he wasn’t too happy to see what had happened. This is when former England cricketer Nick Compton also wrote, “Yea it doesn’t look good for him! No need.”

There were some who even criticized Fox Sports for their headline on Kohli. Nevertheless, we might see another quality contest between India and England when they play the fifth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester starting on September 10. India is leading the series 2-1 and The Barmy Army will still have their trumpets out for the final Test.
