Yo-Yo fitness test has become the centre of attraction for all the wrong reasons in the recent times. The fact the players are dropped after not being able to clear the test has not gone down well with many. It has become mandatory for the cricketers to attain the minimum score of 16.1 in order to make it to the national side. The captain Virat Kohli, himself is leading from the front in this aspect with a score of 19. However, the former India Hockey captain Sardar Singh has surpassed him with ease in terms of the yo-yo test score.

The Indian Hockey team is gearing up for the upcoming Asian Games in Indonesia starting from August 18. Singh was dropped from the side when the team was being coached by Sjoerd Marijne due to lack of pace in his game. Though the new coach Harender Singh has recalled him back into the set up citing his immense experience at the highest level.

But Sardar Singh hasn’t come back only on his mighty reputation. He has improved his fitness with immense training regime and maximum nutritional intake in his food. He followed the world’s fastest runner Usain Bolt and tried to increase his speed.

“I looked at what Bolt did for speed, tried to follow what other top athletes do for strength. You just pick and learn. If I craved for paranthas, I stuffed broccoli in it instead of potatoes. But I haven’t taken the liberty of eating such things a lot,” he was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

How much is the yo-yo test score?

In the lead up to the Asian Games, Sardar Singh appeared for the much-debated yo-yo test and cleared it with flying colours. He achieved a whopping score of 21.4 which the cricketers must have only dreamt of achieving. Not only did he surpass Virat Kohli’s score of 19 with utter ease, Singh achieved his personal best by going past his previous score of 21.3. Hopefully, this supreme fitness helps him score more goals for Team India and the fans will be expecting a medal from the Men in Blue.
