Former Indian stars to take part in Gujarat Premier League

Gujarat Premier League (GPL) is the new State-based T20 tournament launched to add to the already a handful of such competitions in India. The likes of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), Telangana Premier League among many others have provided a lot of opportunities to the youngsters off late. GPL, however, will be the auction based tournament, the first of its kind, and the former Indian players will also take part in the T20 tussle.
A total of six former Indian players, 18 international and six domestic stars will be in action. GPL will have six teams fighting it out for the ultimate glory. Each team will consist of one former Indian cricketer, three former International players, three new-cap players and domestic stars. A total of 18 matches will be played during the course of the tournament and it will commence with a grand opening ceremony in which the prominent Bollywood stars are set to perform.
What is the prize money?
GPL is being organized by “The Luxury-minds Entertainment L.L.P” and more than 15 corporate giants have shown their interests in teams and the sponsorships according to the statement released by the tournament officials. “GPL will become a strong platform for the budding Indian cricketers as it is first of its kind ‘Auction’ based tournament being organized in Gujarat as well as in India,” the statement further read.
All the matches will be played in Surat, Ahmedabad and Rajkot. While Surat will host 7 matches including the grand finale, Rajkot and Ahmedabad will share six and five matches respectively. The team which will win the mega tournament will get a cash prize of Rs 51 Lakh, while the runners-up will earn a cash prize of Rs 21 Lakh. Also, each participating team will get Rs 2 Lakh in addition to all the prize amount. The whole competition will be broadcast live on TV by ‘Neo Sports’.
