The Indian cricket team put up a terrific show in the rainbow nation. While many predicted a tough path ahead for India after losing the first two Tests, the team displayed some extraordinary grit and determination to sail through the rest of the series quite comfortably. They won eight out of the twelve games they played in the series impressing one and all. Every player contributed to the best of his ability to make this possible.

Coach Ravi Shastri was a proud man after this performance from the team. “Proud Of The Boys Showing Real Steel. Easily #TeamIndia’s Best Ever Tour Of South Africa By A Country Mile,” he wrote on Twitter. Obviously, there wouldn’t be many who will disagree with this statement after seeing India’s performance.

Team India also garners praise from Proteas stalwarts

Just like Ravi Shastri, the former South African left-arm orthodox spinner, Omar Henry was thrilled with the result. The cricketer-turned-commentator who was also the chief selector of South Africa was surprised by the result. He hasn’t seen any Indian team in the past as good as this one. In fact, Henry was part of the Kepler Wessels-led Test team in the first ever India v South Africa series in 1992-93. He didn’t figure in the seven-match ODI series but saw Mohammed Azharuddin’s team go down 2-5.

Henry stated that the Indian team is much improved now and said the players are fantastic ambassadors of the game. “I think they were fantastic ambassadors. And they showed the cricket world that they are a much- improved team while playing on bouncy and seamer-friendly pitches. They are going to become a force away from home,” Henry told mid-day yesterday.

Furthermore, he also hailed the wrist spinners for their performances. “In terms of limited overs cricket, they (Chahal and Kuldeep) can become world-class, if not already. They both excite me. They are still young and the more they get exposed at international level, the better they will become. Don’t forget, they were bowling along with a good seam and swing attack,” said Henry.

Also, Henry’s teammate back in the 1992-93 series, Dave Callaghan was highly impressed with Virat‘s boys. “It was great having India in South Africa this summer. They are an excellent side in all formats. And because of all that quality, they have adapted to South African conditions so easily. The Test results could have been a little different if India had come out earlier for preparation,” said Callaghan.
