In a rather shocking development, former West Indies cricketer Franklyn Rose has been sent deported back to his hometown Trinidad after overstaying his work visa. The 44-year old former West Indies pacer had been to New Zealand to coach the Auckland domestic side. With his visa expiring in 2012, Rose was imprisoned briefly in Auckland before being deported to the Caribbean.

Rose played 27 ODIs and 19 Tests in a career that failed to live up to the hype of his talent. He had been granted a work permit by the New Zealand government after being appointed as the coach of the Auckland University Cricket Club.

His work visa, as well as work permit, expired in the subsequent year as Rose faced the uneasy prospect of being deported in 2012. However, this was rescinded as Rose volunteered to coach at different places over the vast expanse of Auckland until he received a deportation notice in early 2014.

Franklyn Rose appeared in front of a district judge in Auckland on the 4th of March as his deportation back to the Caribbean looked inevitable. He was also held in the Mount Eden Prison in Auckland since the fourth of March before being deported on Tuesday, the 12th of April.

Rose left New Zealand soil for Jamaica on Tuesday after his plea to remain in New Zealand had been subsequently turned down by the minister for immigration Craig Foss. Franklyn Rose’s career spanned just three years as he featured for the West Indies from 1997 to 2000 having been dislodged from the West Indies side courtesy of the likes of Daren Powell and Mervyn Dillon.  The 44-year old also boasts of a terrible bowling average until it was worsened by Kemar Roach.

He has since taken up coaching with the gig in Auckland proving to be the latest of the coaching roles he has taken up.
