Harsh Goenka has a love-hate relationship with cricket fans on Twitter. He posts some of the most unpopular, at times biased opinions and Twitterati love to bash him. 1.55mn fans the chairman of the RPG group has is an indication of the fact that he enjoys a substantial voice on the social media platform. After the conclusion of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018, Goenka posted his best and flop XI for the season.

His best XI didn’t feature Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni who led his team to the title in a dream season for the franchise and was trolled by CSK and Dhoni fans who feel he did that out of personal despise. Goenka has made some interesting picks in his flop XI as well.

The team starts with Australian D’Arcy Short who was picked by Rajasthan Royals following an exceptional Big Bash League season. But Short was well short of expectations and was eventually out of the side. His opening partner is former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir. GG quit as the skipper of Delhi Daredevils midway through the season and didn’t feature in any of their matches thereafter.

The Rising Pune Supergiant owner has the likes of domestic heavyweight Mayank Agarwal, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and English all-rounder Ben Stokes in the flop XI. He has also included the big name – Yuvraj Singh who really struggled to get going for Kings XI Punjab in almost all the outings.

Then there is RCB’s retained player Sarfaraz Khan, RR all-rounder Stuart Binny who also didn’t have a lot of contribution to make. The bowling department includes Jaydev Unadkat who got the big bucks but falls on his face when we talk about the returns. It clearly was the pressure of expectations and that of the price tag that pulled the left-arm pacer down.

Young Washington Sundar was thrashed by batters at his team’s home ground and played very few games this season. The fact that he was with RCB and the Chinnaswamy is a graveyard for the bowlers hurt him a lot. The last player he’s included in the team is another Bangalore player, their New Zealand recruit Corey Anderson.

Harsh Goenka’s IPL flop XI:

D’Arcy Short, Gautam Gambhir (C), Mayank Agarwal, Glenn Maxwell, Ben Stokes, Yuvraj Singh, Sarfaraz Khan, Stuart Binny, Washington Sundar, Jaydev Unadkat, Corey Anderson
