Even after bidding adieu to the game, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir never falls short of making the headlines. A few days after reacting over an ex-soldier begging in Delhi, Gambhir has now come up with yet another message for the common man. It seems people are too eager to make use of the philanthropist’s name for their own gains.

Member of two World Cup-winning squads (World Twenty20 in 2007 and ICC World Cup in 2011) who also delivered in the finals on both occasions, Gambhir retired from all forms of cricket in December and hit a century in his final game which was in the Ranji Trophy. A colourful personality on the ground as well as off it, Gambhir has always seen standing up to social causes – be it helping children of martyred soldiers, transgender people or budding cricketers.

The 37-year-old recently took to Twitter to inform his fans and followers that some restro-bars, restaurants, and pubs in central and West Delhi were using his name even though he had nothing to do with them directly, indirectly or partially. He also clarified that he had no establishment like those in his name anywhere in the world.

Here is Gambhir’s tweet

Gambhir had a similar experience in 2017

This is not the first time, however, that Gambhir has faced such an experience. In 2017, the teetotaller cricketer had dragged a Delhi restro-bar to the court for allegedly using his name in its tagline, Times of India (TOI) reported. The former cricketer had approached the Delhi High Court on that occasion after the owner of the pub, who incidentally was also named Gautam Gambhir, refused to change its name despite repeated requests and a legal notification by the ex-cricketer’s legal team.

Gambhir is very particular about the fact that his name shouldn’t be associated with any place selling alcohol. Gambhir played international cricket between 2004 and 2016 and scored over 10,000 runs across all formats with 20 centuries. He scored 97 in the final of the 2011 World Cup to steer India to their second title.
