Gautam Gambhir recently found himself in the middle of a real estate firm fraud case. The former left-handed batsman was the brand ambassador of Rudra Buildwell Reality Pvt. Ltd, which is a real estate group. The firm was accused of cheating the investors. According to the reports, the company failed to fulfil the promises made to the investors.

The group had received investments from investors for flats in NCR area. The court in Saket rejected the revision plea by Gambhir where he requested to be exempted from the case. The cricketer had argued that he was only a brand ambassador, which was not enough to convince investors to invest in the project.

He failed to appear in the court even after rejection of the revision plea. Saket Court had issued a bailable warrant in the name of Gambhir because he failed to appear in the court multiple times. The recently retired cricketer has now come out and explained that he could not appear in court due to professional commitments.

Gambhir clarified his stance on Twitter

“Since last evening there’ve been media reports about bailable warrants issued against me for not appearing before the Court.I’d like to clarify that dates for an appearance in Court coincided either with my playing commitments for Delhi Ranji Team and/or other professional reasons,” he wrote.

The former Delhi opener further added that he was always represented by advocates. He again clarified that he was merely a brand ambassador of the firm.

“I was always represented by my advocates in the Court, as I am more than willing to abide by the law of the land and honour the directions issued by the Hon’ble Court. On another note, I would like to clarify that I was merely a Brand Ambassador,” he added.

An additional director for a short while

The former Indian opener admitted that he was an additional director of the company for some time. He blamed people with vested interests for publicising the news.

“And an Additional Director (for a short while), of the said real estate company named M/s Rudra Buildwell Realty Pvt. Ltd. Maybe this is the price I’ve had to pay and it seems that some vested interests and publicity mongers joined in to publicize the news,” he further wrote.

He wrote mentioned that in his defence that allegations are against the company and its promoters. He argued that as per the complaint Mr Mukesh Khurana and his wife Mrs Babita Khurana received benefits from the buyers.

“Also, even as per the complaint, the allegations of wrong-doings are against the company and its promoters namely Mr. Mukesh Khurana and his wife Mrs.Babita Khurana who are the beneficiaries to the money received from the home buyers,” Gambhir explained.

He offered sympathy to the customers who had spent their hard earned money to buy these flats. He further claimed that as a responsible citizen he would do everything to help these buyers.

“I never had any control over their actions or lack of it in providing the customers with their flats. My sympathies were and will always be with d customers who had invested their money to buy these flats. As a responsible citizen, I will do everything possible to help them,” he added.
