Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian batsman, has led the Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles in the span of six memorable seasons with the club. The left-handed opening batsman has gone on to become one of the most influential captains in the Tournament.

The Knight Riders under the leadership of the left-hander have won the 2012 IPL trophy and the 2014 IPL trophy defeating Chennai Super Kings and the Kings XI Punjab in the respective finals. This has placed the Knight Riders in the elite group of Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, who have won two IPL trophies.

The southpaw has now revealed his desire to return to the Delhi Daredevils in the future and end his T20 career with his home team. Delhi-grown Gambhir spent his first three IPL seasons with the Delhi Daredevils, leaving the side after they failed to reach the pinnacle of the tournament.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Gambhir revealed that his heart still lies with the Delhi Daredevils. He said, “I think my heart is still with Delhi. I played for three years for Delhi (Daredevils). Somewhere, deep within my heart, I’d love to finish with Delhi. Though I am the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders and would want them to win it for the third time, [but] since I’m a Delhi boy too, I obviously want Delhi Daredevils to do well as well.”

However, Gambhir still continues to captain the Delhi side in the domestic tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy dominating the domestic arena.

Most of the players in the IPL are going to go under the hammer after the 2017 IPL before the commencement of the 2018 edition of the tournament. There still exists a strong possibility that the left-hander might go back home to play for the Daredevils in the future. It will be a massive blow for the Knight Riders if their captain decides to leave the franchise after his productive seasons at the Bay of Bengal.
