The five-match Test series between England and India has turned out to be a nightmare for the visiting team. Virat Kohli and his men lost the first two matches at Edgbaston and Lord’s respectively and are 0-2 down in the series. While their bowlers have stood up in the hour of need, the batting has been abysmal, to say the least. Only the Indian captain has shown determination to stay put in his wicket.

Apart from that, no other batsman could cross even the 40-run barrier. At the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, the English pacers dominated to such an extent that Adil Rashid, their leg-spinner, wasn’t required to be introduced throughout the entire encounter. In the meantime, Geoffrey Boycott, the former English batter, slammed the Indian batting for their irresponsible and lacklustre approach.

Playing the ball on the up in front of your pad is a no-no

“So far, the Indian players have let themselves and their supporters down. The batting has been so naive and irresponsible, it has bordered on stupidity. Wafting drives at tempting outswingers is thoughtless,” Boycott was quoted as saying in News18.

“Trying to work straight outswingers through midwicket and then being surprised when you get bowled or nick it to the slips is brainless. Playing the ball on the up in front of your pad is a no-no. These are elementary things you do not do against any decent swing bowler in English conditions,” he added.

India ran England close in the opening Test in Birmingham but lost by a slender margin of 31 runs. Kohli notched knocks of 149 and 51, but they couldn’t take the visitors over the finishing line. In the second contest, India slumped in the batting department in both the innings, having been bowled out for 107 and 130 runs. Subsequently, they lost by a massive margin of an innings and 159 runs.
