Australian International cricketer Usman Khawaja has signed up for Glamorgan ahead of the T20 Blast which will commence on July 6. Glamorgan will begin their hunt for the title with a clash against Hampshire on the opening day. Khawaja will be available for all the 14 league games as confirmed by the Chief Executive of Glamorgan, Hugh Morris.Morris also stated that Khawaja is a top-class International cricketer and his signing is a major boost for their club. Khawaja bats at number 3 for Australia and in recent years, he has been in prolific form against the white ball as well. Glamorgan’s performance in the T20 Blast has been decent over the years and Morris said this signing would help them continue that brilliant run.

“We are delighted he has signed for us,” said Hugh Morris, Glamorgan’s chief executive. “He is a top-class international player and he has shown that this winter in the longer form of the game with Australia.

“But over the last two years, he has performed very well in T20 cricket in the IPL [Indian Premier League] and the Big Bash. He is looking forward to coming here. We have done well in T20 cricket and we wanted to continue that,” He added.

Looking forward to the challenge: Khawaja

Usman Khawaja too was delighted after signing up with Glamorgan and said he’s eagerly looking forward to play in the tournament. Another Australian presence in the Glamorgan side is Shaun Marsh. Both these players have a crucial juncture coming up in their life as the ban on Steve Smith and David Warner gives them a significantly important role in their National side right now.

“I’m delighted to have signed for Glamorgan for their Vitality Blast campaign and look forward to the challenge of helping them build on the success they achieved in last year’s competition,” Khawaja said on Wednesday(April 18).
“From my point of view, it would be great to be able to take them a step further and bring silverware back to Wales. Glamorgan have some fantastic players in their squad and I can’t wait to join up with the team and play with Shaun again,” He concluded.
