Glenn Maxwell tore apart the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) bowling attack in the 39th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-handed batsman scored a quickfire 56 at a strike rate in excess of 150 and helped the Royal Challengers Bangalore side post a 54-run win over the Mumbai Indians (MI) outfit.

And, former Indian batting colossus Virender Sehwag has offered his thoughts on the way Maxwell plays. The ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ reckons that Maxwell has a lot of talent, but sometimes fails to use his brain.

Adding that Maxwell used his brain better against the Mumbai side, Sehwag said that the Australian cricketer does not apply himself according to the situation of the match.

“He has the talent and the ability, but sometimes he doesn’t use his brain. Today, he used his brain better, and ended up scoring runs. I am not against him, but I’m against his style of play. He is a good player, but he doesn’t apply himself sometimes as per the situation of the game,” said Sehwag in a chat with Cricbuzz.

Glenn Maxwell takes two million dollars every year but does nothing: Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag also added that while Maxwell has the talent, he should use his brain to win matches for whichever franchise he plays for. The 42-year-old concluded by stating that Maxwell is paid a hefty sum of two million dollars every year, but ends up doing nothing.

“There is no paucity of talent, but he should make the most of it by applying his brain and win games for his team else there is no use. He takes 2 million dollars every year, but does nothing,” concluded Virender Sehwag.

Glenn Maxwell and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side will next be seen in action on 29th September 2021 when they take on the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) side. Maxwell is currently the 11th highest run-scorer in IPL 2021 and has amassed 300 runs in 9 innings at an average of 33.33 and a strike rate of 138.25. He has also scalped 3 wickets with the ball in hand as well in the 14th IPL edition.
