Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell who is leading the Kings XI Punjab this year in the Indian Premier League played a wonderful inning of 104 runs at Ranchi in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar trophy. Maxwell stated on Tuesday that he is hoping for a repeat of his performance at Ranchi if he gets to feature in the Ashes at the end of this year.

The All-rounder after scoring a century in the Test at Ranchi followed it up with a decent enough knock of 45 runs in the Test at Dharamsala but unfortunately could not help his side emerge victorious at the end of the Test. The player, however, had no idea about what Australia’s squad is going to be for the all important Ashes, the first test of which is scheduled at the Gabba this year.

The right-handed batsman also admitted that his spot in the side is far from secure as Australia has a tendency to go for a seam-bowling all-rounder in the top six.

Maxwell quoted cricket.com.au “I’d love to say that I’d be a good chance, but I have absolutely no idea”

I don’t know which way they’re thinking. We’ve seen in the past that they like to have a medium-pace all-rounder at No.6 and if they were to go that way in the first Test, I think that’d be fine. But if I was to get an opportunity to play a Test at home, I’d love to take it the same way I did in Ranchi and make the most of it.”

The Kings XI Punjab skipper further notified that it is unlikely of him to take unnecessary pressure for getting back into the side and he would like to continue to work and train hard as he does every time.

“I’ll still train and work as hard as I can to play, but I’m probably not putting as much pressure on myself as I probably did in previous years”
