Legendary Australian pacer Glenn McGrath showered praise on Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood. When analysed deeply, the two bowlers seem to have a connection. Neither of the two are known to have express pace as their key weapon. Yet they are highly successful in the art that they master. Glenn McGrath was known for his accuracy and perfect line and lengths.
Josh Hazlewood, too, seems to carry forward the legacy set by the former Aussie cricketer. Mcgrath recently went on to quote that Hazlewood is right among the top bowlers at the moment. “He’s (Hazlewood’s) definitely up in the top couple of bowlers in the world, the way he’s bowled the last few matches he’s up around the number one spot,” Glenn McGrath quoted at a promotional event. He further cited that Hazlewood had a minor low phase in his career during the 2015 Ashes.
But he believes that the youngster has shaped up well to bowl consistently in the last few matches. “He had a hiccup in the UK (during 2015 Ashes) which I thought was a good learning experience for him and the way he’s come back, he’s a world-class bowler now. He showed that in the last two or three games – where he’s taken the big wickets, bowling consistent areas and the pressure’s on the batsman the whole time,” he said.
The former Australian cricketer went on to say that Josh Hazlewood is perhaps in the form of his life. Moreover, he believes that Josh has the capability to continue in this fashion for a long time. Longevity holds the key. Glenn himself had been a master class act with the ball. His tally of 563 Test scalps remains untouched by any other pacer around the world. “He looks comfortable, he looks confident and the pace is up. I think he’s in the form of his life. The good thing for Josh is I think he can maintain that for a long, long time,” he added further.
