The ‘Qualifier-2’ game of the Global T20 Canada between Vancouver Knights and Winnipeg Hawks was played on Sunday. While this was the second chance for the Vancouver Knights, the Hawks won the ‘Eliminator’ earlier to proceed to this game. The Knights earlier lost the ‘Qualifier-1’ against Cricket West Indies B.

The second qualifier of the Global T20 Canada was a rain-affected one. Hence, the match was reduced to 13 overs per side. The Vancouver Knights won this game and thence proceeded to the final. They will play Cricket West Indies-B in the final on Monday.

Vancouver Knights vs Winnipeg Hawks – Qualifier 2, Playoffs

In this shortened game, Winnipeg Hawks’ skipper David Warner won the toss and opted to field first. However, to his dismay, Warner’s decision to bowl first didn’t prove to be as effective. Although Knights’ skipper Chris Gayle was dismissed early, the other batsmen kept going hard. Wicket-keeper Chadwick Walton scored 45 off 26 balls. Ben Dunk also played a handy cameo of 29 off 17 balls. Andre Russell proved how brutal he could be in these sort of games as he scored 36 off just 15 balls. Tim Southee with two sixes towards the end finished things off in the innings. They put a massive 152 runs in 13 overs after losing five wickets.

Chasing this target was never going to be easy. However, there were hopes of David Warner to pull off something special as he has shown some good form in the previous two games. But, he got out for a first-ball duck putting the pressure on the other batsmen. However, Lendl Simmons went hard and scored 35 off 20 deliveries. The chase was in the course of ending up being a thriller.

But, there was another rain interruption. While the Hawks were on 84 for the loss of 5 wickets after 8.3 overs, the rain started pouring in again. David Miller just got out before the rain interruption. At this stage, the Hawks were 13 runs short of the D/L par score. Fawad Ahmed picked two wickets in the innings.
