Goa police arrests 3 locals for betting on IPL games

The Indian Premier League totally eradicated the menace of fixing matches when it suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for 2 years. However, Indian judiciary system has still not been able to eliminate betting from the society, which is being practiced by a lot of people in the country secretly.

Two days ago, news emerged from Hyderabad which said that 10 people were arrested in relation to IPL betting. Rs. 9.90 lakh, three mobile phones and a laptop was seized from the accused by the police.

“He (one of the accused) had been operating from the first match of the IPL 10 season and used his distant relative Sridhar, a techie, as an agent to collect money from punters.” Hyderabad police revealed.

Just 2 days after that, another IPL betting news has emerged, this time from Goa. Early on Tuesday, three men were arrested from a high-end resort in Anjuna beach village, for indulging in bets during the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils, which took place on Monday evening.

The arrested men have been identified as Jayant Vaghela 33, and Kiransinh Vaghela, 32, both from Ahmadabad, and the third one is from Agra, named Narendra Singh.

The Goa police also seized Rs 15,275, 11 mobiles, two laptops, an LED TV and a set top box from the betters who were arrested under Indian Penal Code and the Goa Prevention of Gambling Act.

On 14th April, Hubballi police had also arrested a man on charges of betting. Raids were conducted at the bookie’s house where the police seized all the equipments he used for betting.
Hubballi is famous for IPL betting, and as many as 20 were arrested last year for their involvement in what is a strictly illegal practice in India.

It becomes very important to totally eradicate the menace of bookies from the IPL to ensure that no match-fixing takes place ever again.
