Grant Elliott will be always remembered for his stunning knock in the semifinal of the last edition of the World Cup. New Zealand needed 5 off the last two balls while chasing 298 against a formidable South Africa attack. With Dale Steyn charging in and throwing fireballs, it was a monumental task. But perhaps these are the moments that define a champion and Elliott showed he is the one.

The South Africa-born batsman slammed Dale Steyn for a massive six to trigger wild celebration in New Zealand as the country qualified for their first-ever World Cup final. Elliott then won hearts all over by consoling the Proteas players instead of sulking into the celebrations. Well, the fans could see a similar performance in the upcoming World Cup too as just seven months after retiring from all forms of the game, the New Zealand batsman has taken a sensational u-turn.

Hilarious prank

Grant Elliott had quit all forms of cricket after finishing his stint as the captain of Birmingham Bears in the T20 Blast in England in August last year. After his team failed to make it to the quarterfinals, Elliott had announced his retirement on his Instagram account. But on Monday, his former New Zealand teammate Nathan McCullum took to Twitter to prank the fans and shocked everyone by saying that Elliott has come out or his retirement for WorldCup.

To add fuel to the fire, even Grant Elliott responded positively which must have given goosebumps to the funs. But it was a hilarious prank from the duo on the April Fool’s day.

“So great to see @grantelliottnz come out of retirement and make himself available for @BLACKCAPS for this years World Cup,” wrote Nathan McCullum. Elliott was also quick to reply to the tweet, writing, “Looking forward to getting out there again.”

Grant Elliott represented New Zealand in five Tests, 83 ODIs and 17 T20Is. The right-handed batsman scored over 2,000 runs across the formats with the help of 2 centuries and 11 fifties.
