Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan has set his eyes on the national comeback. Dhawan was ruled out of the national squad following an injury after the Kolkata Test against New Zealand. Dhawan has had a poor run in the Tests in the recent times. No wonder why the likes of KL Rahul and Gautam Gambhir are striving hard to get the opener’s slot.

While Murali Vijay remains to be the fixed opener, the other slot is up for grabs. With KL Rahul being out of action due to a forearm injury, Shikhar Dhawan is now vying a national comeback. Dhawan spent time at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for his rehabilitation. He made his Ranji Trophy comeback against Rajasthan recently.

With scores of 38 and 49, he looked in a decent touch. But to get selected for the 4th Test against England, Shikhar Dhawan needs to score big in the next Ranji encounter. A green surface awaits Dhawan and the Delhi team at Nagpur. Delhi will play Vidarbha in their next match. “I am enjoying myself at the moment. I am playing Ranji Trophy after a long time and it’s great to be back with the Delhi boys,” said Dhawan ahead of the Ranji clash with Vidarbha.

He further added that it is great to have so many openers competing for the opener’s slot in Test team. He believes that such healthy competition is a good sign. “It’s great that we have so many openers who are vying for the position. All of us have to perform consistently in order to be in contention,” mentioned Shikhar Dhawan.

Dhawan was calm and composed as he said that it is important to enjoy the time away from the game. He cited acceptance as a big aspect of life. “Injuries happen. I accepted that I was injured and ensured my rehab went well. Acceptance is very important or else you would end up being frustrated,” said the Delhi opener.

Lastly, he mentioned that he is constantly working on his game. He, however, refused to reveal what areas he has worked on. “I constantly work on my game. I look for solutions and ensure that my game gets better. I am not going to tell you what I have worked on,” said a jovial Dhawan.

The Delhi-Vidarbha clash will also provide an opportunity to Gautam Gambhir to make his case in front of the selectors. It will be worth a competition to watch among the two Delhi openers.
