Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli has come out in total support of PM Modi’s historic decision to demonetize Rs 500 & Rs 1000 currencies in order to curb black money. The decision has caused chaos all over the country and Mr Prime Minister has drawn a lot of flak for the decision. A majority have termed it as a hasty and unprepared call.
“It’s the greatest move that I have seen in the Indian politics by far; hands down, really impressed, Virat Kohli”
Kohli was speaking at the press conference ahead of the second Test against England in the coastal city of Vishakapatnam. He said that he was unaware of the declaration and got to know about it only when his currency was rejected at a hotel.
The second India v England Test match starting Thursday in Visakhapatnam will be a little bit special for one player – Virat Kohli who will play his 50th Test. Kohli will be the 28th player from India to play in 50 or more Tests while the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar tops the list for the country and in the world, with 200 Test appearances.
He made his Test debut against West Indies in June 2011 in Jamaica and has built up a fine reputation in his 49 Tests so far, with a total of 3643 runs at 46.11 with 13 hundreds.
Kohli has led India to four consecutive Test series victories since becoming a full-time captain. His journey so far includes historic series victories over Sri Lanka, South Africa and West Indies, and a 3-0 clean sweep over New Zealand.
Kohli became the first Indian captain to win a Test series in Sri Lanka. Last year, South Africa lost to a host nation for the first time since 2006-07 and Kohli became the first Indian captain to win a Test series 2-0 in the West Indies. Overall, Kohli has captained India in 18 Tests out of which six have ended in draws.
