Team India completed an emphatic ODI series win over England recently. As skipper Virat Kohli said, there were a lot of positives to take from it. The biggest of them was the batting exploit of Kedar Jadhav. Jadhav came to the fore when he joined hands with Kohli in the Pune ODI to give India an improbable win. Jadhav stunned the English bowlers with a gritty 120 off mere 76 balls that gave the impetus to the Indian run chase of over 350.

Later in the series, he almost won the game for India at Kolkata with his free flowing 90 but missed out by a whisker. All in all, the series turned out to be a very fruitful one for Kedar Jadhav. The Maharashtra batsman was named as the Player of the Series for his exploits with the bat in the series. As per the quotes in DNA India, the wicketkeeper-batsman reflected back at the series quoting it as a ‘turning point’ in his career.

He mentioned that he knew he could get the player of the series award if he batted the way he did in Pune. “After hitting the century against England in Pune, I thought if I continue with the same performance, there is a possibility of getting man of the series (award). I think the ODI series against England is the turning point of my cricketing career,” Kedar Jadhav quoted.

He further remarked that it is essential for any player to have self-belief. Citing his own example, Jadhav mentioned that even after a mild New Zealand series, he knew he can perform well at the highest level.

“Though I did not score big, whatever runs I scored, it gave me immense confidence….Before this series (against England), I had a gut feeling that I will perform, and I think, for any player, having such a feeling is the most important thing,” quoted the Pune batsman.

One key thing to note in the case is that Jadhav made his ODI debut quite late. However, he does not rue that fact. He believes that there is no point in discussin what happened in the past or what could happen in the future. He further added that he thinks he will get a few more chances after his recent heroics.

“I got the opportunity late because I was not mature enough, there were flaws in my game. The moment I became an accomplished player, I got the opportunity and I am happy that I could convert it (into success). I think I will get chance for another two to three series,” said Kedar Jadhav.

Jadhav had a word of praise for both Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. He praised the calm and composed nature of MS Dhoni under pressure. Talking about Kohli, he pointed out that Kohli backs him to play his normal game. He feels assured with Kohli trusting him a great deal.

“He has always encouraged me to play my natural game. Just by seeing him preparing for the game and playing one I get immense inspiration,” said Jadhav about Virat Kohli.

“He handles the pressure, faces the challenges and deals with the situation in a calm and composed manner,” Jadhav said about MS Dhoni.
