Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag and veteran Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh recently paid tributes to the iconic hockey player of India, Major Dhyan Chand. Both cricketers took to micro blogging site Twitter to express their emotions on the occasion of National Sports Day in India. Sehwag and Harbhajan were soon joined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in paying tribute to Major Dhyan Chand on the occasion.
Every year, August 29 is celebrated as the National Sports Day in India. The day commemorates the birth date of Major Dhyan Chand. He is regarded as the greatest player to have ever played the sport of Hockey. During his paying career in the early 1900s, he won three Olympic Gold medals for India – in 1928, 1932, and 1936 Olympics. He scored over 400 goals in his career. It is his birth anniversary that is celebrated as a national day in India now. On the occasion, Sehwag and Harbhajan led the way in paying tributes to him.

Narendra Modi joins in
Minutes after Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan paid tributes to arguably the greatest hockey player of all time, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, joined in the spree too. Modi posted a series of tweets in which he paid tributes to Dhyan Chand. He also cited that the country is blessed to have so many good sportspersons. Hence, the aim is to harness each and every talent and get the best outcomes for the country.
