The 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) got underway last night at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Defending champions Mumbai Indians hosted the returning franchise Chennai Super Kings for the opening encounter. While CSK managed to win the game in a last over thriller one particular image with Hardik Pandya down on the ground proved to be a real meme material.
Pandya walked in at No.4 after the team got a decent start. His job was to give them the final impetus. He wasn’t as successful as he would’ve liked but still managed to hog his share of the limelight. Chennai’s Dwayne Bravo was bowling the final over of the first innings. He has been their most successful death bowler for this team not only cutting down on the runs but also picking key wickets.
After spending two runs in the first three balls, Bravo’s fourth was a Yorker on the leg-side. Pandya wanted to make room in his attempt to get under the ball but as he moved the ball hit him right on the ankle of his left foot and he fell down. He was hurt so bad that it didn’t allow him to get back on his feet. His batting partner Krunal and other CSK players surrounded him and he eventually got up.
Pandya had to walk off the field with the help of his teammates on the conclusion of the 20 overs and really struggled with that ankle. But after receiving quick treatment for the same during the innings break he was back on the field in the second innings. Not just that he also took the new ball and bowled with a lot of energy.
Though MI, after holding control of the chase for major part eventually lost the match, Pandya’s effort was widely appreciated. But social media, as ruthless as it gets found the funny side to this incident and made a variety of memes on Pandya.
