Harsha Bhogle names his ODI XI of 2018

Even as T20 cricket, consisting of the international and domestic ones, across the globe grabbed most of the limelight in the year 2018, ODI cricket wasn’t far behind by any means and also entertained the audience to a large extent. The year started with the five-match series between Australia and England and ended with the closely-fought three-match series between Bangladesh and Windies.

A number of players stepped up for their respective teams and Harsha Bhogle picked up his best ODI XI from them. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are the opening batsmen. Both were fantastic at the top of the order for the Indian team. Rohit ended the year with 1030 runs at an average of 73.57 with five centuries. Dhawan also notched 897 runs at an average of 49.83 with three centuries.

Eight players from Asia in ODI XI

Virat Kohli is next on the list and the selection didn’t spring a surprise as he scored 1202 runs at a gigantic average of 133.55 with six centuries. English Test captain Joe Root also features in the elite list, having scored 946 runs at 59.12 with Jos Buttler being the other English cricketer to accompany him. Veteran cricketer Shakib Al Hasan and Thisara Perera are the all-rounders in the lineup.

Apart from scoring 497 runs, Shakib picked up 21 wickets despite straining with a finger injury throughout the year. Rashid Khan is ICC’s number-one ranked ODI all-rounder. He is also the year’s highest wicket-taker with 48 scalps at an economy of 3.89.

Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav is his spin bowling partner as he took 45 wickets at an economy of 4.64. Kagiso Rabada from South Africa with 23 wickets and Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah with 22 wickets are the fast bowlers in the lineup.
