One of the best batsmen of his time, Hashim Amla has recently bid Adieu to all forms of international cricket. The former batting great, a couple of days ago, decided to call it quits from the highest level of cricket and put a full stop on a legendary career. The lad’s retirement also marked the end of a glorious era of the Proteas cricket as most of the legendary cricketers like Jacques Kallis, AB De Villiers, Dale Steyn etc have also hung up their boots.

Amla played his last game against the Sri Lankan team in the recently-concluded Cricket World Cup 2019 and fortunately ended up scoring 80 odd runs & finished his vivacious career on a high. The 36-year-old played a total of 124 test games, wherein, he scored 9,282 runs. In white-ball cricket, he played 181 ODIs and 44 T20Is and collectively scored around 10k runs.

The former South African cricketer’s retirement was very much expected as he has played really well in the last couple of years. Nonetheless, these won’t change the fact that Amla, during his prime, was arguably the hottest property of the fraternity. He holds the record of scoring the highest test score for the South African team. He is also the fastest batsman to reach 15, 16, 17, 18 and 20 ODI centuries.

Amla expresses his thoughts

After announcing the retirement, Amla released his statements, wherein, he thanked everyone associated with his cricketing career. He also posted an Instagram post, in which he attached a bunch of images of several of his teammates and other aspects of his journey. He also wrote a beautiful caption with it, thanking his teammates and fans.

“Thanks to everyone for the wishes, messages and calls. Wow! It was truly an amazing journey with the Proteas, one that I was honoured to be a part of,” the Pakistan-born began his Instagram post.

He further added, “So many valuable lessons learnt and countless memories made during an incredible #proteafire journey. It’s all the friends and teammates who have actually become family that I walk away richer for. Aww man..probably a book load of stories and memories. ❤ Until then I look forward to the next chapter of making more cricket memories on different grounds throughout the world.

Howbeit, one strange thing about this post was an image of Amla bowling. The veteran cricketer, who isn’t a regular bowler, also attached an image of him delivering the ball. Regarding this aspect, the ace batsman cheekily took a dig and said that he was quite underutilized as a bowler. Hashim Amla added a post scriptum part at the end of the post, which read, “regarding the last Pic… #underused #hiddenpotential ????”

The former South African cricketer wasn’t handed over the ball on many occasions. In test cricket, Amla has bowled only 9 overs in his entire career and has failed to strike a wicket in even one of them.
