A crowd of around eleven thousand on the first day of a Test which is a weekday is definitely a good turnout but not for a city like Hyderabad which has the history of attracting substantial crowds; this being the first International game since 2014 over and upon that the home side was batting first. Out of those, about 20% were school children, who were provided free tickets. The empty stands were such that a cement factory’s logo on the seats appeared to be a branding banner.

This shouldn’t have been the situation considering the number of the people standing outside the stadium, who were there at least an hour before scheduled play. They were queued not to enter the stadium but were first attempting to buy tickets. This was mainly because of to the lack of ticket counters and a lesser known website was managing the online sale of tickets.

The supposed outlets except the Gymkhana were reportedly removed without a proper notice and they were forced to buy tickets from stadium since they were not familiar with the website either. The reason for all the chaos was HCA handing over the rights of managing the Test match to a private organization after they fell short of funds due to the Lodha v BCCI issue.

The audience wasn’t the only party on the receiving end on the first day of the Test match, as the press box too lost quite a few features due to the pipeline constructions adjacent to the stadium. In order to arrange underground water pipelines, the road in front of the stadium was dug up till Bangladesh reached the city. Due to these works, the Internet cables were damaged and the journalists didn’t have a proper internet connection while covering the game.

There was no signal in the television setup in the media box while the operator was struck outside the stadium ion the name of security. All that was finally sorted only in the last hour of day’s play. Overall, the first day of Bangladesh’s first ever Test match in India, which could be termed as a historic one, turned out to be a forgettable affair for a lot of people.
