After two drawn Test matches, the third match between West Indies and England finally produced a result with the home side comfortably winning the match by 10 wickets. West Indies put on a brilliant show throughout the Test and on a tricky pitch, England capitulated in their second innings to concede the game.
As far as the match is concerned, after being put into bat first, both English openers tried to play the new ball cautiously, but could not succeed. The visitors kept losing wickets and eventually were all-out on a score of 204. To everyone’s surprise, it was the tailenders Jack Leach (41 off 141 balls) and Saqib Mahmood (49 off 118 balls) who did bulk of the scoring for England in the first innings. For West Indies, pacer Jayden Seales was the pick of the bowlers, getting three wickets to his name in the first innings.
On the back of wicketkeeper-batter Joshua Da Silva’s hundred, the home side scored 297 runs in their first innings, getting a vital lead of 93 runs. Experienced pacer Chris Woakes scalped three wickets for his side. The visitors in their second innings crumbled to say the least. None of the English batters, excluding Alex Lees (31 off 132 balls), Jonny Bairstow (22 off 82 balls) and Chris Woakes (19 off 50 balls), managed to get in the double digits.
Pacer Kyle Mayers was too hot to handle for the visitors as he scalped a five-wicket haul with England getting all-out for 120 and giving a meek target of 28 runs to the home side. West Indies completed the chase easily in 4.5 overs with Da Silva being adjudged as player of the match. Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite was named player of the series.
