Herschelle Gibbs tries to troll Ashwin, Ashwin turns savage in his response

The cricketers are known for sharing friendly exchanges on the social media. In fact, they also share light hearted banters on the micro blogging site Twitter. But recently, a social media exchange between former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs and veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin went a little awkward.

The awkward silence was bound to appear when Herschelle Gibbs tried to mock Ashwin in his tweet. Ashwin is renowned to be an individual who has a very serious and direct approach to everything. This is what was evident in his response to the apparent mocking of the former South African cricketer.

The verbal exchange perspired after the conclusion of the first T20I between South Africa and India. On the tour, the young Indian spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, have spun a vicious web for the Proteas. They have been instrumental in taking India to comprehensive wins. Also, their success is making it tougher for the hitherto India’s spin mainstay R Ashwin.

Ashwin had been out of favor candidate in the national side in the limited overs setup in the recent times. Amidst this backdrop, Ashwin posted a promotional video of a shoe on his social media handle. Trying to take a dig at the same, Herschelle Gibbs mocked Ashwin to run faster and get fitter in his game.

In no mood to joke around, R Ashwin was absolutely savage in his response to the comment. Ashwin remarked that he was not bestowed with the running talent. He added that this never forced him to take to fixing to feed himself. This was a direct dig at Gibbs, who was involved in spot fixing claims.

Here is what Ashwin tweeted:

“Surely not as fast you did mate, unfortunately I wasn’t as blessed as you were. But I was blessed with a wonderfully ethical mind not to fix games which put food on my plate,” R Ashwin tweeted.

Gibbs did not look too impressed with the response and noted that he was only joking. “Can’t take a joke i see. anyway moving swiftly on..,” Gibbs noted.

Ashwin did not waste time in responding further on the same as well. He mentioned that even he is ready for jokes and conversation. He further took a subtle dig at Gibbs citing that perhaps the latter could not understand his response, which was an intended joke too. Dark humor, eh?

“I totally believed my reply was a joke too, but look how people and yourself perceived it. I am totally game for this sort of fun mate, we shall dine over this sometime,” Ashwin responded.
